Shaw Electric employees are empowered to take safety into their own hands. They’re close to the job, so they see what can’t be seen any other way.  The insight that gives us as a company is invaluable. This common sense approach to a comprehensive safety stance strengthens us in terms of credibility, practical application and pride. When safety is your cornerstone, you can build on it with confidence. Here’s our view of the role safety plays in every project.

We’re Committed to Safety:

  • Shaw Electric’s regard for each employee as a fellow human being focuses our efforts to respect each person and provide a safe work environment for them.  We realize that they need to provide for their families but also need to return home safely to them each day.
  • Owners/Board of Directors require direct reporting of all safety initiatives, review each safety incident, discuss safety as an agenda item at each meeting, and are involved in allocation of resources for the safety effort.
  • Project Managers and Supervisors are held responsible for the safety performance of each jobsite they manage.  Performance reviews and wages are directly related to jobsite and personal safety performance.
  • Each employee is regularly evaluated regarding their safety performance as well as their involvement in the general safety effort at each jobsite.
  • Shaw Electric develops, implements, trains, and maintains a comprehensive company Safety Policy and Procedures Manual that meets and exceeds OSHA requirements.
  • Shaw Electric employees a full time Safety Professional with over 20 years of experience who provides resources for all levels of the company.

Extensive Training

Shaw Electric provides extensive training to ensure our employees’ safety.  Major areas of Safety Training include but are not limited too:

  • New hire safety orientation – minimum 5 hours
  • Annual review safety training.
  • OSHA 10 hour Construction Classes.

Jobsite Safety

Shaw Electric plans ahead for jobsite safety by:

  • Project Managers assessing jobsite hazards during pre-bid or prior to job start.
  • Discussing safety issues during project turn over meetings with Supervisory personnel prior to job start up.
  • Confirming with customer any additional safety requirements for the site or specific tasks.
  • Jobsite personnel using Shaw Electric’s Job Safety Analysis (JSA) process to recognize hazards and identify means and methods of eliminating or minimizing exposure to hazards.
  • Conducting at least weekly jobsite safety talks regarding general and site specific hazards.
  • Conducting weekly safety audits to ensure actions and conditions remain safe for all employees.
